Client Computer Requirements
The following sections give the requirements that you may not have anticipated. Although the
Microsoft Windows operating systems you would expect to be supported (Windows XP and
newer) are indeed sufficient, the major issue is in web browser support. To take advantage of
all of SharePoint Server 2010’s authoring and publishing features, only certain web browsers
are supported. Microsoft categorizes web browser functionality relative to SharePoint into
two levels. We’ll discuss them in the following sections.
Level I Web Browsers
Level 1 web browsers are browsers that can take advantage of advanced features offered by
ActiveX controls and that can provide full functionality on all SharePoint sites, including
the SharePoint Central Administration website.
The following list breaks down the various operating systems and browsers that support
SharePoint:
Windows XP
Internet Explorer 7
Internet Explorer 8 (32-bit)
Mozilla Firefox 3.5
Windows Vista

Internet Explorer 8 (32-bit)
