as well. Game ports connect such peripheral devices to the computer using a DA-15F
15-pin female D-subminiature (D-sub) connector. Devices that once connected to the
game port have evolved, for the most part, into USB-attached devices.

Figure 1.21 shows another set of interfaces not shown in Figure 1.19, the sound card
jacks. These jacks are known as

⁄8-inch (3.5mm) stereo minijacks, so called for their size
and the fact that they make contact with both the left and right audio channels through
their tip and ring. Shown in the diagram are an input, the microphone jack on the left, and
an output, the speaker jack on the right. Software can use these interfaces to allow you to
record and play back audio content in file or CD/DVD form.
