Part I: The Basics
The overall interface in SharePoint Designer is very much in the mold of an Integrated Development
Environment (IDE) such as Visual Studio, or web design and development tools like Adobe
Dreamweaver (formerly of Macromedia). As you learn about the various tools at your disposal, you will
quickly feel at home in SharePoint Designer.
If you are new to the IDE experience, you want to be aware of the need for development and design
tools to manage projects consisting of many interrelated files. Some commands operate on individual
files, and others work on a project as a whole. This need will surface in a number of different ways. For
example, examine the File menu shown in Figure 1 - 2 . Notice that there are two options each for Open,
Close, and Recent items.
