Chapter 1: Why Design?
Summary
At this point, you have gained an appreciation of some of the reasons why good design should be a
serious part of the planning of any Web project (SharePoint or otherwise). Maybe you have been exposed
to some things you haven’t considered before. Or maybe you have just received confirmation on some
of the things you already believe. Either way, you should have a new (or renewed) appreciation of the
reason to follow good design principles.
Now that the why is out of the way, the rest of this book will focus more on the how. You will get a better
understanding of what good Web design means, how to use tools such as Photoshop and SharePoint
Designer for your design needs, and how to use all of the out-of-the-box functionality of SharePoint to
make it look anything but.
With that, it’s time to begin. Good luck and good coding.
