EARPHONES, HEADPHONES, SPEAKER
C onnec ting an Earphone or Headphones
For private list ening , you can plug an 1/8-inch (3.5 mm)
mini-plug earphone or headphones (not supplied) in
the Headphone jack on the front of the WS1095 /
WS1098. T his automatically disconnects the internal
speaker .
Connecting an Extension Speaker
In noisy areas, or if you install the scanner in a v ehicle ,
an e x t ension speaker (not supplied) may provide more
comfortable list ening . Plug the speaker cable’s 1/8 inch
(3.5mm) mini-plug into your scanner’s EXT. SP jack ,
loca t ed on the rear panel of the r adio .
Listening S af ely
To protect your hear ing , follow these guidelines when
you use headphones:
• Do not connect headphones to the e x t er nal speaker
jack loca t ed on the rear panel of the r adio .
• Set the volume to zero before putting on
headphones . With the headphones on, adjust the
volume to a comfortable lev el .
• Avoid increasing the volume once you set it . Over
time , your sensitivity to a volume level decreases, so
volume levels that do not cause discomfort migh t
damage your hear ing .
• Avoid or limit listening at high volume lev els .
P rolonged exposure to high volume levels can cause
permanent hearing loss .

Wearing headphones while operating a motor vehicle
can cr ea t e a traffic hazard and is illegal in most ar eas .
E v en though some headphones let you hear some
outside sounds when listening at normal volume
lev els , they still can pr esen t a traffic hazar d . Ex er cise
extreme caution!
