Poor Quality S-Video Output on Some TVs
NVIDIAdriversdifferentiateanSvideoTVfromacompositeTVbysearchingfor75
Ohmloadsonthechrominanceandluminancelines.Ifthedriverdetectsonlyonesuch
load,itassumesthatithasacompositeTVanddrivesbothchromaandlumaontothat
line.Thisapproachallows
bothtypesofTVtodisplayincolor.
Unfortunately,someSvideoTVsdonotapplythecorrectloadtobothlines,causingthe
drivertodetectanSvideoTVasacomposite.Thedriver,inturn,sendsthelowerquality
signaltotheSvideoTV.Toworkaround
thisproblem,usetheControlPaneltooverride
theAutoselectfeature.Thiscanbedonefollowingthesesteps:
1 IntheSettingstaboftheDisplayPropertiesControlPanel,clickAdvanced.
2 InthenViewtab,clickDeviceSettingsandclickSelectOutputDevice.
3 IntheDeviceSelectiontab,clicktheTVoption.
4 ChangetheVideooutputformattoSvideo.
AGP and PCI-E Programs May Hang With AMD K7 and K8
Processors
Issue
Microsoft®Windows®2000andWindowsXPsystemsusingAMDK7andK8
processorscanhangwhenanAGPorPCIEprogramisused.
RootCause
ThereisaknownproblemwithMicrosoft®Windows®2000andWindowsXP
systemsusingAMDK7andK8CPUsthatresultsintheMicrosoftoperatingsystem
allocatingoverlapping4Mcachedpageswith4kwritecombinedpages.This
conditionresultsinundefinedbehavioranddatacorruption,andisexplicitly
disallowed
bytheAMDCPUmanual.
Thisproblemcanaffectanydevicedriverinthesystemthatallocateswritecombined
systemmemory,butisusuallymosteasilyreproducedwithgraphicsdriverssince
graphicsdriversgenerallymakeheavyuseofwritecombinedsystemmemoryfor
performancereasons.
Resolution
Microsofthasaknowledgebasearticleontheissue,thetextofwhichisunfortunately
quiteoutdated.WhilethearticleonlymentionsWindows2000,AGP,andK7,boththe
rootcauseandresolutionalsoapplytoWindows2000orWindowsXP,AGPorPCIE,
andAMDK7orK8.
