modeforyoursystemfirst.ThedefaultmodeisRSTPenabled.
AfteselecttheSTPorRSTPmode;continuetoconfigurethegloableBridge
parametersforSTPandRSTP.
AfterselecttheMSTPmode,pleasegotoMSTPConfigurationpage.
RSTPistheabbreviationofRapidSpanningTreeProtocol.Ifaswitchhasmore
thanonepathtoadestination,itwillleadtomessageloopsthatcangenerate
broadcaststormsandquicklybogdownanetwork.Thespanningtreewas
createdtocombatthenegativeeffectsofmessageloopsinswitchednetworks.A
spanningtreeusesaspanningtreealgorithm(STA)toautomaticallysense
whetheraswitchhasmorethanonewaytocommunicatewithanode.Itwill
thenselectthebestpath(primary),andblocktheotherpath(s).Itwillalsokeep
trackoftheblockedpath(s)incasetheprimarypathfails.SpanningTreeProtocol
(STP)introducedastandardmethodtoaccomplishthis.ItisspecifiedinIEEE
802.1D‐1998.Later,RapidSpanningTreeProtocol(RSTP)wasadoptedand
representstheevolutionofSTP,providingmuchfasterspanningtreeconvergence
afteratopologychange.ThisisspecifiedinIEEE802.1w.In2004,802.1wis
includedinto802.1D‐2004version.ThisswitchsupportsbothRSTPandSTP(all
switchesthatsupportRSTParealsobackwardcompatiblewithswitchesthat
supportonlySTP).
