PortTrunkingconfigurationallowsyoutogroupmultipleEthernetportsinparallel
toincreaselinkbandwidth.Theaggregatedportscanbeviewedasonephysical
portsothatthebandwidthishigherthanmerelyonesingle Ethernetport.The
memberportsofthesametrunkgroupcanbalancetheloadingandbackupfor
eachother.PortTrunkingfeatureisusuallyusedwhenyouneedhigher
bandwidthforbackbonenetwork.Thisisaninexpensivewa yforyoutotransfer
moredata.
Therearesomedifferentdescriptionsfortheporttrunking.Different
manufacturersmayusedifferentdescriptionsfortheirproducts,likeLink
AggregationGroup(LAG),LinkAggregationControlProtocol,EthernetTrunk,
EtherChannel…etc.MostoftheimplementationsnowconformtoIEEEstandard,
802.3ad.
Theaggregatedportscaninterconnecttotheotherswitchwhichalsosupports
PortTrunking.WestermoSupports2typesofporttrunking.OneisStaticTrunk,
theotheris802.3ad.Whentheotherenduses802.3adLACP,youshouldassign
802.3adLACPtothetrunk.Whentheotherendusesnon802.3ad,youcanthen
useStaticTrunk.
