Portmirroring(alsocalledportspanning)isatoolthatallowsyoutomirrorthe
trafficfromoneormoreportsontoanotherport,withoutdisruptingtheflowof
trafficontheoriginalport.AnytrafficthatgoesintooroutoftheSourcePort(s)
willbeduplicatedattheDestinationPort.Thistrafficcanthenbeanalyzedatthe
Destinationportusingamonitoringdeviceorapplication.Anetwork
administratorwilltypicallyutilizethistoolfordiagnostics,debugging,orfending
offattacks.
PortMirrorMode:SelectEnable/Disabletoenable/disablePortMirror.
SourcePort:ThisisalsoknownasMonitorPort.Thesearetheportsyouwantto
monitor.Thetrafficofallsource/monitorportswillbecopiedto
destination/analysisports.Youcanchooseasingleport,oranycombinationof
ports,butyoucanonlymonitortheminRxorTXonly.Clickoncheckboxofthe
PortID,RX,TxorBothtoselectthesourceports.
DestinationPort:ThisisalsoknownasAnalysisPort.Youcananalyzethetraffic
ofallthemonitoredportsatthisportwithoutaffectingtheflowoftrafficonthe
port(s)beingmonitored.OnlyoneRX/TXofthe destinationportcanbeselected.
AnetworkadministratorwouldtypicallyconnectaLANanalyzerorNetxray
devicetothisport.
