INTRODUCTION Thanks for purchasing the WEN belt sander We know you are excited to put your tool to work, but first, please take a moment to read through the manual. Safe operation of this tool requires that you read and understand this operator’s manual and all the labels affixed to the tool. This manual provides information regarding potential safety concerns, as well as helpful assembly and operating instructions for your tool. WARNING: Indicates danger, warning, or caution.
GENERAL SAFETY RULES Safety is a combination of common sense, staying alert, and knowing how your item works. SAVE THESE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS. WARNING: Read and understand all warnings, cautions and operating instructions before using this tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in personal injury and tool damage. WORK AREA SAFETY 1. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. 2.
GENERAL SAFETY RULES 4. Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energizing power tools that have the switch on invites accidents. 5. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury. 6. Do not overreach.
SPECIFIC RULES FOR THE SANDER WARNING: EXTREME CAUTION REQUIRED WHEN SANDING PAINT. The dust residue may contain LEAD which is poisonous. Exposure to even low levels of lead can cause irreversible brain and nervous system damage, to which young and unborn children are particularly vulnerable. Any pre-1960s building may have paint containing lead on wood or metal surfaces that has since been covered with additional layers of paint.
SPECIFIC RULES FOR THE SANDER 8. SANDING THE WORKPIECE Caution: when the machine contacts the workpiece it will have a tendency to grab and pull forward. Resist the forward motion and keep the belt sander moving at an even pace. Never pull the tool backwards over the workpiece. Sand in the direction of the grain whenever possible. Remove the sanding dust between each grade of sanding sheet. Never leave the machine unattended while it is still running. 9.
ELECTRICAL INFORMATION GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS IN THE EVENT OF A MALFUNCTION OR BREAKDOWN, grounding provides the path of least resistance for an electric current and reduces the risk of electric shock. This tool is equipped with an electric cord that has an equipment grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug MUST be plugged into a matching outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with ALL local codes and ordinances. DO NOT MODIFY THE PLUG PROVIDED.

ASSEMBLY & DRUM ADJUSTMENTS KNOW YOUR SANDER WARNING: To avoid injury from accidental startups, switch off the tool and unplug the power cord before adjusting, replacing accessories, cleaning or maintenance. INSTALLING THE SANDING BELT (FIG. 2 - 4) 1. Press the tip of the sander against a hard object to retract the front roller (Fig. 2). 2. Insert the sanding belt on the rollers. OPERATION KNOW YOUR DRUM SANDER The tool is intended for sanding flat exterior and interior surfaces, rounding corners and edges, deburring, removing paint, welding spatter and rust, and for sharpening knives and scissors etc. All other applications are considered to be unsuitable. Only use tool for its intended purpose. CAUTION: Never cover air vents. They must always be open for proper motor cooling. Make sure that the workpiece is free of foreign objects that could tear the abrasive belt. 1.
