One of the goals in having freedom of design during device development is to
efciently assemble printed circuit boards while ensuring a high level of quality.
During installation, handling and time savings are of paramount importance. With
a wide range of “PUSH IN” PCB terminals designed for the SMD reow soldering
process, Weidmüller meets the requirements of practical application: from fully
automatic surface mounting to the practical plug-in connections for installing
devices.

We support SMD assembly with “PUSH IN” PCB terminals
Thanks to its tried-and-tested OMNIMATE products, Weidmüller is a longstanding partner of renowned device
manufacturers.
Their needs are of primary importance when it comes to developing new products and solutions. At Weidmüller, the focus is
therefore on using the increasingly popular SMD reow soldering process. As the technique allows the connection elements
to be processed fully automatically with the component assembly in a single manufacturing process, a consistently high
degree of efciency can be achieved in the manufacturing of devices for the electronics sector. Maximum freedom in device
design also relies on space being available on the PCB and the possibility of assembling different kinds of material. This is
also an area which calls for SMD assembly, which is now used for both active and passive components.
SMD soldering implies space saving and design freedom. When SMD components are used, the reverse side
of the PCB remains free and can be used for mounting other components.
Device manufacturers have, at best, double the amount of space at their disposal in the case of a dual-sided PCB assembly –
alternatively, they can use a circuit board half the size, which allows the entire device to have a more compact design.
Connectivity is also possible with composite PCBs made of glass, ceramic or aluminium, a feature which plays an important
role when designing devices in the area of LED lighting, for example. This often involves the installation of aluminium heat
sinks, which provides no possibility for drilling holes. In such cases, SMD technology is the ideal solution for attaching the
necessary connection components.
The new OMNIMATE Signal LSF-SMD product line from Weidmüller is characterised by numerous special
features and has been optimally adapted for use in multiple elds through a uniquely wide range of products.
The LSF-SMD family expands the diverse product portfolio of reow-compatible LSF-SMT components and meets all of the
requirements of fully automatic PCB surface mounting for three main pitches and three wire outlet directions. In combination
with its ubiquitous “PUSH IN” connection system, Weidmüller is fully able to satisfy the demand for high efciency from
circuit board assembly to the installation of ready-to-use devices.
