TheSensorShelter(oftenreferredtoasanaspiratedshelter)servestwoprimary
purposes:
ShieldstheTRHsensorfromdirectsunlight,whichcouldyieldinaccurate
readings.Thedesignminimizesheatbuildupbyenablingairtoflowthrough,
resultingin"true"airtemperaturereadings.
ProtectstheTRHsensorfromprecipitationwhichcouldcauseinaccurate
readingsaswellasdamagetotherelativehumiditysensor.
TheDataCabletransportsdatafromtheweatherstation'soutdoorcomponentsto
theEarthNetworksNetworkAppliance(ENNA),locatedindoors.TheDataCableis
UVratedandcanberunalongtheweatherstationmastwithoutconduit;however,
conduitshouldbeusedtoprotectthecablewhenrunningitoverthelengthofroof

OutdoorComponentsOptionalLightningSystem
TheWeatherStationalsohasanoptionallightningdetectionsystemthatusesthe
LightningAntennawiththeLightningDigitalSignalProcessor(DSP)todetectthe
uniqueradiofrequencysignatureofstaticdischargecausedbylightning.Thissystem
usesanintegratedGPSSensorthattrackstimedowntothelevelofananosecondin
ordertoplotthegeographiclocationwiththehighestaccuracy.Thetimeandsensor
locationarecriticalforintegrationintotheEarthNetworksTotalLightningNetwork
(ENTLN).Eachlightningsensorinthenetworkworksaspartofagroupingofsensors
totriangulatelightningstokesbasedontimeandgeographiclocation.Thegrowing
densityoftheEarthNetworksTotalLightningNetworkallowsgreaterresolutionof
lightningallowingdetectionofbothintracloud(IC)andcloudtoground(CG)
lightning.
