Product Description - ProSwitch Quad-Series Fiber Switches 1 FDX/HDX 1 2 3 4 ProSwitch Quad-Series Fiber Switches boost the performance of large Ethernet LANs, and have the flexibility of both fiber and twisted-pair switched ports. Their “mixed-media” capability provides for a variety of configurations including various types of fiber port connectors and modes, as well as allowing a mix of 10/100Mbps RJ45 (copper) ports in the same unit.

The latency (the time the frame spends in the Switch before it is sent along or forwarded to its destination) of the Quad-Series switches varies with the port-speed types, and the length of the frame is a variable here as it is with all store-and-forward switches. For 10Mbps-to-10Mbps or 10Mbps-to-100Mbps or 100Mbps-to-10Mbps forwarding, the latency is 15 microseconds plus the packet time at 10Mbps. For 100Mbps-to-100Mbps forwarding, the latency is 5 microseconds plus the packet time at 100Mbps. 2.

Caution: Be careful not to disturb the power supply. Looking down into the ProSwitch QSeries unit, notice that there are individual QPM connector sockets along with two standoffs for each QPM card position. There are four QPM slots located on the front of the QS5116 model, whereas QS580 and QS5108 have two QPM slots in the front. (See Figure 3.9.1b). The ProSwitch Quad-Series switches operate in the store-and-forward switching mode, which eliminates bad packets and enables peak performance to be achieved when there is heavy traffic on the network. When Quad-Switch’s RJ45 copper ports are set for auto-negotiation and connected to another auto-negotiating device, there are 4 different speed and F/H modes selection depending on what the other device supports.

transmitter to start sending the packets. Of course, the transmitting device must also support the 802.3x flow control standard in order to communicate properly during normal operation. This section applies only to QPMs shipped as separate items, i.e., QPMs not factory installed in a ProSwitch Quad-Series QPM slot. Examine the shipping container for obvious damage prior to installing a QPM; notify the carrier of any damage which you believe occurred during shipment or delivery.

The ProSwitch QPM-MSC is a multimode 100Mbps fiber optic transceiver module, similar to the QPM-MST.
