8.2.2 Electrical Fault Finding
Ifthesystemisnotfunctioningproperly,turnoffthesystemandhavealicensed,certiedelectricianperformthe
following:
•Completeallstepsoftheinstallationprocess.
•Verifythatallwiringconnections,includinggroundingofthesystem,arecorrect.
•Checkthesensorwireforproperohmreading.
•Ensureallwireshavebeenconnected,includinggroundingofthesystem,inaccordancewiththewiringdiagrams.
•VerifythatthebreakersupplyingpowertotheWarmlyYoursthermostatisanon-GFCIcircuitbreaker(Note:Ifusinga
thermostatnotprovidedbyWarmlyYours,aGFCI-circuitbreakermayberequired).
•Makesuremultiplecableshavebeenwiredinparallelandnotinseries.
•Conrmthatthethermostatisreceivingthecorrectvoltageandoutputtingthesamevoltagewhen
calling for heat.
•Usingawell-calibrated,digitalohmmeterorPowerMan™withgoodbatteries,checktheohmresistancelevelofeach
heatingcable.Refertosections5.2.10and5.3forinstructionsabouthowtoattachtheohmmeterorPowerMan™
andhowtousethePowerMan™.Verifythatthesevaluesarewithin-5%/+10%at20ºC(68ºF)oftheresistance
valuelistedontheproductlabel.Ifthemeasuredvaluesexceedtheacceptablerange,refertothe“QuickReference
TroubleshootingGuide”insection8.1.Ifthemeasuredvalueisnotwithinrangeoftheoriginalreading,thecablemay
havebeendamagedinsomewayduringinstallation.
Ifalloftheaboveitemshavebeencompletedandthesystemisstillnotoperatingcorrectly,thendetermineifthereisa
breakorashortundertheoor.
8.2.3 Checking for Breaks or Shorts
Tocheckforabreak,measuretheohmresistanceofeachcable.Whentakinganohmreading,ensurethatyoudothe
following:
•Donottoucheitheroftheprobeendswithanypartofyourbody.Iftheprobeendisincontactwiththebody,themeter
willmeasuretheinternalresistanceofyourbody,notthecable.
•Setohmmetertotheproperscale(0to200Ωforheatingcableor0to20,000Ωforthesensorwire).
Theohmresistancereadingsshouldbewithin-5/+10%at20ºC(68ºF)ofthenominalresistanceindicatedbythefactory
ontheULlabel.Refertothe“QuickReferenceTroubleshootingGuide”insection8.1.todeterminewhattheohmreadings
indicate.
