• Lock the slide in the open position by allowing the
slide to move slightly forward from the rearmost
position while pressing upward on the slide stop

• Visually check the barrel chamber to be sure it is
empty (3.5 Fig. 4).
• Look into the chamber and down through the mag-
azine well. Verify that no ammunition remains in
the pistol.
• Unload the magazine by holding it with the bullet end
of the cartridge pointing away from you and press-
ing each cartridge forward and out of the magazine.

3.6 Clearing Misfires
• If a cartridge fails to fire, wait ten seconds while keeping the muzzle pointed in a safe
direction.
• Keep your finger off the trigger and out of the trigger guard.
• Follow the procedure as described in section 3.5 “Unloading the Pistol”.
• Check the barrel chamber and bore visually for any obstructions. You must be certain there
are no cartridges in the chamber or obstructions in the barrel. If there are any obstruc-
tions in the bore of the barrel have the pistol further examined and repaired by a qualified
gunsmith before using again.
