Choosing the right cooling unit and mounting location
All WAECO cooling units are air-cooled: heat
is discharged to the surrounding environment
by dynamically ventilated or fi n condenser.
The advantage over a water-cooled unit:
signifi cantly lower installation and main-
tenance costs with similarly e cient operation
– after all, the air temperature on the ship’s
hull beneath the water line is barely higher
than the water temperature.
The larger the surface of an evaporator, the
more heat it can absorb, and the greater its
capacity. For small refrigerator volumes
low-cost plate evaporators are ideal. Fin-type
eva porators have up to fi ve times more surface
area than plate evaporators of the same size.
Clear answer: the best location is below the
water line, because here, the air is already
cooled by the water temperature. WAECO
o ers cooling units in various designs, so that
even the most awkwardly shaped space can
be used.

advantages of an air-cooled

Compressors with adaptive speed control
Every refrigeration system comprises a compressor, a
condenser and an evaporator. To ensure e cient operation
the three key components must be perfectly coordinated.
The WAECO range includes a variety of condensers and
evaporators for optimal confi guration.
WAECO exclusively uses the adaptive speed compressors.
These compressors contribute signifi cantly to the supreme
e ciency of WAECO refrigeration systems – along with the
following factors:
The compressor speed adapts precisely to the
performance requirements of the other system
components (evaporator and condenser).
Both compressor types can be supplied with plate and
fi n evaporators in a range of shapes and sizes. This
ensures that every shape of container can be equipped
correctly. It also makes optimum use of the compressor
performance.
The dynamically ventilated or fi n condenser units ensure
the required heat dissipation at all times.
