4.6 Checking the Neutral/Brake Solenoid Valve
Prerequisites
Engine must be able to start
Multimeter
Procedure
Follow the procedure below to check the neutral/brake solenoid valve.
1. Disconnect the wiring from the neutral/brake solenoid valve (a).
2. Measure the resistance of the coil (b).
Does the coil measure 7.0–8.0 ohms?
3. Reconnect the wiring and coil.
4. Feel and listen for the cartridge (of the neutral/brake valve) shift when the key is
first placed into the ON position.
Does the cartridge shift?
Result
The neutral/brake solenoid valve has now been checked. Reconnect the wiring.
If the problem has not been resolved, continue with the next topic.
Yes ____ No ____
Continue. The solenoid has failed; replace it.
Yes ____ No ____
The neutral/brake solenoid valve is OK. The neutral/brake solenoid valve has failed.
