5.4 Servicing the Air Cleaner
Service the air cleaner frequently to prevent carburetor malfunction.
NOTICE: NEVER run the engine without the air cleaner. Severe engine damage
will occur.
Procedure
1. Remove the air cleaner cover (a).
2. Inspect the element (b) for holes or tears.
Replace the element if it is damaged.
3. Wash the foam element (b) in a solution of mild detergent and warm water.
4. Rinse it thoroughly in clean water.
5. Allow the element to dry thoroughly.
6. Soak the element in clean engine oil and squeeze out excess oil.
WARNING
Explosion and fire hazards.
Never use gasoline or other types of low flash point solvents for cleaning the air
filter. Use only compressed air, mild detergent, and warm water.
