Youcanreturnusedrechargeablebatteriesfreeofchargetoanycollectionfacilityinyour
localauthority,toourstoresortoanyotherstorewhererechargeablebatteriesaresold.Inso
doingyouwillfullyourstatutoryobligationsandcontributetotheprotectionoftheenviron-
ment.

isusedagainforthenextchargingprocessaftertheconnectiontothemains.
3. Fitthechargingcableadapterwiththealligatorclampsontothechargingcableuntilit
clicksintoplace(5).Thisplugdevice(aswellasthechargingcableadapterwithfuse
forpermanentconnection)isprotectedagainstpolarityreversalandcanbeputtogether
inonlyoneposition.Toreleasethisconnection,youmustpushtheredjackonthe
adapter(6)onthe“chargingcableside”inwardsomewhatandthenreleasetheplugcon-
nection.
Nowattachtheredalligatorclamptothepositiveterminal,theblackalligatorclamptothe
negativeterminalofthebattery.
Alternatively,insteadofthealligatorclampsforthemobileuse,youcanalsoperma-
nentlyconnectthechargingcablewithfuseforpermanentconnectiontothebattery
inthevehicle.Todothis,attachtheblackcablewiththeeyeletshoetothenegative
terminal,theredcablewiththeeyeletshoetothepositiveterminalofthebatterytobe
charged.Proceedcarefullywhendoingthis;avoidshortcircuitsandpayattentiontoa
securecontact.Inthis“permanentconnectionadapter,”a2Afusewithfuseholderis
built-inundertherubbercasing.Ifthechargingprocessdoesnotstartonetime,this
fusemaybedefective.Inthiscase,replacethefuseandcheckthecabling.
Withapermanentconnection,makesurethatneitherthechargernortheconnections
ofthechargingcableareexposedtomoisture.Operationofthechargerintheinstalled
state(permanentconnectioninthevehicle)ispermittedonlyindry,enclosedrooms
(e.g.,agarage).
Ifthechargerisnotconnectedtothemains,alowreversecurrentowsanddischarges
thebattery.Forthisreason,werecommendthepermanentconnectiononlyinvehicles
thatareregularlymovedandcharged.Thechargerhastwoscrewholesontheunder-
sideofthehousingforinstallationinavehicle.
4. Whentherechargeablebatteryisconnectedwiththecorrectpolarity,notdefective
(high-impedance/disconnected)andconnectedtothemains,itstartstochargeafterafew
seconds.Dependingonthechargestateandconditionoftheconnectedbattery(e.g.,bat-
teryoldornew;batteryat,etc.),theLEDs“25%”(7),oralso“50%”(8)oralso“75%”(9),
lightup.Ifthebatteryisfullycharged,inadditiontotheaforementionedLEDs,the“100%”
indicator(10)alsolightsandthechargercontinuesgivingonlyminimalcurrenttothe
batteryformaintenancecharging.
Chargingprocessesvaryinlength.Withalargebatterywithacapacityofe.g.,12Ah,
dependingontheconditionofthebattery(batteryisoldornew;batteryisatordeeply
discharged,etc.),thechargingprocesscaninfacttakemultipledays.
Iftheno-loadvoltageofa6Vbatteryisbetween1Vand5.25V(for12Vbattery:
7.5Vand10.5V),thechargingprocessbeginswithaspecialrefresherprogram
(pulsecharging).ThisprogramisindicatedbytheLED(11=indicatorforRefresh)
andlastsatmosttwohoursandfteenminutes.Thenthechargerswitchesto
thenormalchargingmode.Iftheno-loadvoltageofa6Vbatteryislessthan1V
(12Vbatterylessthan7.5V),thechargerindicates“Error”(12).Suchbatteriesare
generallysodamagedthattheycannolongerbecharged.
5. Endthechargingprocesswhenthe“100%”LEDlights.Todothis,removethebattery
fromthechargerandthenpullthemainsplugoutofthemainsoutlet.
Dependingonthesetting(6Vor12VviatheModebutton),thechargerislimitedinthe
outputvoltagetothechargingendvoltageofa“6V/12Vrechargeableleadbattery”.Ifa
12Vbatteryisconnectedwiththe6Vchargingprogram,the“Error”LED(12)lightsup.In
thiscase,unplugthebatteryagain,pressthemodebuttonuntilthe“12V”LEDlightsand
thenreconnectthebattery.
Apolarityreversalprotectionisalsobuiltin.Ifthechargerisconnectedtoabatterywiththe
polesreversed,theredLEDforthepolarityreversalprotection(13)lights.Checkthepolarity
ofthebatteryandtheconnectioncable.
Thechargerisstilldeactivatedduringconnectiontoabattery.Therefore,unlikewithconven-
tionalchargers,sparksdonotnormallyformduetoachargeequalizationwhenthecharger
isbeingconnectedtothebattery.Aftertheconnection,thechargestateofthebatteryis
checkedrst.Onlyafterthistestofthealreadyconnectedbatterydoesthechargingprocess
startautomatically.
Anoverheatingprotectionisbuiltintothecharger,whichreducesthechargingcurrent
automaticallyifthetemperatureinthechargeristoohigh.Whentheinternaltemperaturehas
droppedagain,thechargingprocesscontinuescompletelynormally.
