The Phaeton is the first Volkswagen vehicle to be
fitted with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The specially-developed automatic transmission
is installed in the Phaeton in conjunction with the
new 5l V10 TDI engine with 4-Motion.
The 6-speed automatic transmission
Furthermore, the automatic transmission has:
- a dynamic shift programme and also a sport programme,
- a regulated torque converter lockup clutch and
- a Tiptronic shift programme with steering wheel switches.
Compared with the 5-speed automatic transmis-
sions, it is especially characterised by:
- an improved driving performance,
- a reduction in fuel consumption and
exhaust emissions,
- a weight reduction of approx. 14 kg,
- a reduction in the number of components by
approx. 30% and by a high shifting
spontaneity with excellent shifting quality.
