Option Description
Parser Directive Configures the parser directives for the file. For example, the
parser directive for the builtin:group custom information
type resembles:
PARSER=tabular PLIST=name/password/gid/members
FS=: COMMENTSTRING=# FIELDSONFIRSTLINE=0
IGNOREFIELDS=password
After VCM collects data from the Linux and UNIX managed
machines, to view the parsed properties and values in the
console, select Console and click UNIX > Operating System
> Custom Information.
See "Parser Directives for Linux, UNIX, and Mac OS X " on
page 140.
UNIX Custom Information Data View in the Console
Console > UNIX tab > Operating System > Custom Information
VCM displays the data returned by a custom information collection. To display the collected data, select a
custom information type in the list.
VCM reports some of the custom information types to the change log. To view changes to these custom
information types, select Console and click Change Management > Master Log.
To view the changes that occurred to the properties and values, group the Data Type column in the

Column Description
Machine
Name
Name of the machine from which the VCM collected data.
File Path Actual file path, or a link to the actual file, depending on the file path specified in the
Custom Information collection filter. When File Path is a link, the actual file name
appears in Actual Path.
For example, a collection filter that uses a file path of /etc/* would identify
/etc/hosts. On Solaris machines, the file path is typically a link to the actual file
named /etc/inet/hosts. In this case, File Path would display /etc/hosts, but
Actual Path would display /etc/inet/hosts.
When a configuration file includes another configuration file, the original file
appears in File Path, and records for the included files would appear in Actual Path.
Actual Path Often the same as File Path, but when File Path is a link, Actual Path displays the
actual file path.
Internal Path Internal VCM path and information type. Additional information in the internal
path is determined by the information type definition.
