Exporting Templates
Youcanexport(copy)atemplatetoanSMBshare.Thisoperationassumesthatyou
enabledasharedfolderwithfullcontrolpermissionsattheshareandfilesystemlevel.
Exportingcantakeupanextendedperiodoftime,dependingonthesizeofthevirtual
machine.
Exportandimportoperations
requireanopenSMBportontheESXServerhosts.
AlthoughtheinstallationofStage Managertakescareofopenin gthatport,beawareof
thisrequirementincasesomeoneclosestheportaftertheinstallation.Tochecktheport
status,usetheesxcfg-firewall -q smbClientcommandoneachhost.
To export a template
1Intheleftpane,
clickVMTemplates.
Thetemplatemustbeundeployedtoexportit.See“UndeployingTemplates”on
page 47.
2MovethepointeroverthetemplatenameandchooseExportfromthemenu.
3Providethelocationandusercredentials:
UNCpathoftheSMBshare(relativetotheStage ManagerServersystem)
whereyouwanttostorethefiles.Asamplepathis
\\10.10.10.10\ExportTemplates.UseEnglishcharactersfortheUNC
path.
Usernameandpasswordtoaccessthefiles,ifnecessary.
4ClickOK.
Consolidating Templates
Eachtimeyoucreatealinkedcloneofatemplate,Stage Managerfreezesthevirtual
harddiskassociatedwiththeoriginaltemplateandcreatesdeltadiskstostorefuture
changestothecloneanditssource.Overtime,theincreasingnumberofdeltadisks
storedacrossthedirectoriesofadatastorecan
affectperformance.Youdonotneedto
consolidatetemplatesuntilStage Managergeneratesanerrorrequestingthis
operation.

OTEEvenifyoudonothavetoconsolidatedisks,youcanusethisoperationtomove
atemplatetoadifferentdatastore.
