Creating Templates from Active Virtual Machines in
Stage Manager
YoucancreateatemplatefromanactivevirtualmachineinStage Manager.Aftera
virtualmachineinaconfigurationundergoeschanges,suchastheadditionofsoftware
oralteredproperties,youmightwanttouseitasthebasisofanewtemplate.Thenew
templateisalinkedcloneof
theoriginalvirtualmachine.
Thisoperationinvolvesspecifyingdeploymentandstorageleases.See“Reviewingthe
ResourceCleanupTab”onpage 103.
Aftercreatingatemplatefromanactivevirtualmachine,youmustverifytheversion
ofVMware Toolsonthetemplate.InformationonVMwareToolsappearsintheVirtual
MachineTemplatespage.
IftheversionisUnknown,deployingthetemplateallowsStage Managertoassess
theversionanddisplayinformationonthepage.See“DeployingTemplates”on
page 37.
IftheversionappearsasInstalled(RequiresUpdate),youmustinstall
VMware Tools.Stage ManagerisdependentonVMware Toolsforguest
customization.See“InstallingVMware Tools”onpage 39.
To create a template from an active virtual machine

2MovethepointerovertheservicenameandchooseDetailsfromthemenu.
3Movethepointerovertheconfigurationname
andchooseDetailsfromthemenu.
4IntheVirtualMachinestab,movethepointeroverthevirtualmachinenameand
chooseAddtoVMTemplatesfromthemenu.
5Providetemplatedetails:
Namethatcontainsalphanumericcharacters(a–z,A–Z,0–9),hyphens,
underscores,orperiods.Maximumlengthis64characters.
(Optional)Description.
Timetoundeploythetemplate.
Timetodeletethetemplateormarkthetemplatefordeletion.
