Deploying Virtual Machines on High Availability Clusters
IfyoudeployavirtualmachineonaclusterwithVMwareHA,StageManagerusesthe
samecalculationthatVirtualCenterhasforassessingfreeslotsavailableinthecluster.
Afterassessingthatthehostshaveenoughresources,StageManagerpowersonthe
virtualmachines.Ifthehostsdonotmeetcompatibility
requirements,thedeploy
operationfailsandStageManagerdisplaysamessage.
Ifyouexperienceafailure,youneedtoreconfiguretheresources.Forinformation
aboutresourcemanagement,seetheResourceManagementGuidefor
VMware Infrastructure3.
ThecalculationthatVirtualCenterandStageManagerusesisconservative.Ifnecessary,
disableitinVirtualCenter
tostopthiscalculationinStageManager.
To disable the calculation
1LogintotheVMware InfrastructureClient(VI Client).
2Right‐clicktheclusterandselectEditSettings.
3Intheleftpaneofthedialogbox,selectVMwareHA.
4IntheAdmissionControlsectionofthedialogbox,selectAllowvirtualmachines
tobepoweredoneven
iftheyviolateavailabilityconstraints.
5ClickOK.
Undeploying Virtual Machines
UndeployingavirtualmachineunregistersitfromVirtualCenter.Youcanundeploya
virtualmachineandsaveitsstateorundeployavirtualmachineanddiscardthestate.
Savingthememorystateofvirtualmachineshelpsyoutodebugmemory‐specific
issuesandmakesvirtualmachinesreadyfordeploymentandusealmost
instantly.
IfanESXServerhostgoesofflineorsomeonemanuallyremovesavirtualmachinefrom
VirtualCenterinventory,thestandardundeployoperationdoesnotwork.See
“UndeployingVirtualMachineswithForce”onpage 110.
To undeploy a virtual machine
1Intheleftpane,clickServices.
2MovethepointerovertheservicenameandchooseDetailsfromthe
menu.
3IntheStagecolumnoftheLifecycletab,clickthethumbnailiconofthedeployed
virtualmachine.
