Chapter 5 Working with Configurations
To power on a configuration
1Intheleftpane,clickServices.
2MovethepointerovertheservicenameandchooseDetailsfromthemenu.
3MovethepointeroverthedeployedconfigurationnameandchoosePowerOn
fromthemenu.
Resetting Configurations
Resettingaconfigurationrestartsthevirtualmachinesinaconfigurationandclearsthe
machinestates.Thisoperationdoesnotshutdowntheguestoperatingsystems.
To reset a configuration
1Intheleftpane,clickServices.
2MovethepointerovertheservicenameandchooseDetailsfromthemenu.
3Movethepointeroverthedeployedconfiguration
nameandchooseResetfrom
themenu.
Consolidating Configurations
Eachtimeyoucreatealinkedcloneofaconfiguration,Stage Managerfreezesthe
virtualharddiskassociatedwiththeoriginalvirtualmachinesandcreatesdeltadisks
tostorefuturechangestothecloneanditssource.Overtime,theincreasingnumberof
deltadisksstoredacrossthedirectoriesofadatastore
canaffectperformance.Youdo
notneedtoconsolidateconfigurationsuntilStage Managergeneratesanerrormessage
requestingthisoperation.
Consolidatingaconfigurationcantakeanextendedperiodoftimedependingonthe
disksizeandstorageperformance.Consolidationreducesthefreespaceondatastores
becausetheconfigurationnolongerbenefitsfrom
deltadisks.
To consolidate a configuration
1Intheleftpane,clickServices.
2MovethepointerovertheservicenameandchooseDetailsfromthemenu.
Theconfigurationmustbeundeployedtoconsolidateit.See“Undeploying
Configurations”onpage 127.

OTEEvenifyoudonothavetoconsolidatedisks,youcanusethisoperationtomove
aconfigurationtoadifferentdatastore.
