Manual Desktop Pools
Manualdesktoppoolsarepoolsofvirtualmachinesthataremanuallyconstructedby
theViewManageradministrator.Desktoppoolsofthistypecanbeeither:
Persistent—Usersareallocatedadedicateddesktopthatretainsalloftheir
documents,applications,andsettingsbetweensessions.Thedesktopisstatically
assignedthefirsttimetheuserconnects,andisthenusedforallsubsequent
sessions.
Nonpersistent—Usersareconnectedtoadifferentdesktopfromthepooleach
timetheyconnect,andthereisnopersistenceofenvironmentaloruserdata
betweensessions.
Deploying a Manual Desktop Pool
1FromwithintheViewAdministrator,clicktheDesktopsandPoolsbuttonand
thenclicktheInventorytab.IntheGlobaldesktopandpoolviewpane,ensurethat
theDesktopsandPoolstabisselectedandclickAdd.
2YouarepresentedwiththeAddDesktopwizard.Fromhereyoucanconfigure
and
deployanewlinkedclonedesktoppool.SelectManualDesktopPoolandclick
Next.
3 SelectthetypeofdesktoppoolyouwanttocreateandclickNext.
4SpecifythesourcetypeoftheguestsystembyselectingeitherVirtualCenter
virtualmachineorOthersources.ClickNext.

provided,selecttheVirtualCenterserverthatwillbeusedbythis
desktop.ClickNext.
6EntertheUniqueIDand,optionally,theDisplaynameandDescription.
Pool Type Description
Persistent Desktopsinthistypeofpoolareallocatedstaticallyinordertoensure
thatusersconnecttothesamesystemeachtimetheylogin.Desktop
assignmenttakesplacethefirsttimetheuserconnects.
Nonpersistent Desktopsinthistypeofpoolareallocateddynamicallywhentheuser
logsin,
andarereturnedtothepoolwhentheuserdisconnects.
