Desktop Sources
Differentdesktopsourceshavedifferentcapabilitiesintermsofapplicationsupport
anduserexperience.Theyalsodifferinthewaytheyareconfiguredandmanagedand
theprovisioningchoicestheyoffer.ThedesktopsourcessupportedbyViewManager:
ViewManagerProvisionedandVirtualCenterManaged—thedesktopsourceisa
virtualmachine
thatisprovisionedbyViewManagerandismanagedbya
VirtualCenterserver.Toaddthisdesktopsourcethefollowingsettingsmustbe
specifiedbytheadministrator:
VirtualCenterserverwhichprovisionsandmanagesthevirtualmachines.Youcan
onlyuseVirtualCenterserversthatareknowntotheViewManagerserver.
Templateusedtoprovisionthevirtualmachines.
LocationintheVirtualCenterinventoryhierarchywhereyouwanttoaddthe
virtualmachines.
Datastoreforthevirtualmachines.
Customizationspecificationforthevirtualmachines.
ViewManagerNon‐ProvisionedandVirtualCenterManaged—thedesktopsourceis
avirtualmachinethatismanagedbyaVirtualCenterserverbutnotprovisionedby
ViewManager.VirtualmachinesalreadyexistontheVirtualCenterserver.Toaddthis
desktopsourcethefollowingsettingsmustbe
specifiedbytheadministrator:
VirtualCenterserverwhichmanagesthevirtualmachines.Youcanonlyuse
VirtualCenterserversthatareknowntotheViewManagerserver.
Individualdesktop:Selectthevirtualmachineandadditasadesktopsource.
Desktoppool:Selectmultiplevirtualmachinesandaddthemasdesktopsources.
Ifthevirtualmachineisalreadyassignedtoanotherdesktop,anerrorappears.You
mustremovethedesktopfrompreviouslyassigneddesktoppoolorindividual
desktop.
