Thedefaultmaximumnumberofephemeralportsthatcanbecreatedsimultaneously
onWindowsServeris5000.IfyouplantodeployViewManagerintoanenvironment
wherealargenumber(greaterthan900)ofconcurrentclientconnectionsislikely,
VMwarestronglyrecommendsthatyouincreasethenumberofavailableephemeral
ports.Thenumberisdeterminedbyusingthecalculationprovidedin“Optimization
Calculation”onpage 41.
Forexample,ifyouareplanningalargedeploymentmanagedbyasingleView
ConnectionServerandyouanticipatethatthegreatestnumberofconcurrentclient
connectionsthatwilltakeplaceatanygiventimeis
1500,thenumberofephemeral
portsrequiredis7510.
To increase the maximum number of ephemeral ports on Windows Server
1StarttheWindowsRegistryEditorbyenteringregeditfromacommandprompt.
2 LocatethefollowingsubkeyintheregistryandclickParameters:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
3OntheEditmenu,clickNew,andaddthefollowingregistryentry:

clientsandtheirdesktopsisheldinsideamemory‐residentdatastructurecalleda
transmissioncontrolblock (TCB).EachTCBholdsmaterialsuchassocketnumbers,the
locationofincomingandoutgoingdatabuffers,bytesreceivedorunacknowledged,
andsoforth.
Toexpeditetheretrievalofthisinformation,TCBdatastructuresarestoredinahash
tablebyWindowsServer,whichusesthenumberofCPUsonthesystem()astheseed
forthehashtabledefaultsize():
