Offline Desktop Licensing and VirtualCenter Access
TheavailabilityoftheOfflineDesktopfeatureisdeterminedbyyourViewConnection
Serverlicensetype.Inordertousetheadministrativeandclientcomponentsassociated
withOfflineDesktop,yourlicensemustincludethisfeatureaspartofitscoverage.
DesktopscanonlybecheckedoutfromVirtualCenteriftheVirtualCenter
user
specifiedinViewManagerisanadministrator.EnsurethattheVirtualCenteruserthat
hasadministrativerightsbeforeattemptingtouseOfflineDesktop.
Storage, Communications, and Security
Thetimetakenforaninitialdesktopcheckoutwillbelongerthansubsequentcheckin
andcheckoutactionsasanentirevirtualmachineclonemustfirstbedownloadedonto
theclientsystem.Thereafter,incrementalchangesarecommunicatedbetweenthe
serverandtheclientasdifferencesbetweenthetwosystems,
andthisinvolvesthe
transferofamuchsmallervolumeofdata.

intoWindowsandusetheir
desktoplocally,evenintheabsenceofanetworkconnection.
Theonlineequivalentisshutdownandlockedinordertopreventaccessor
modification.
Whileworkingoffline,userscanbackuptheirdatatotheserveratanytime.
3Whentheuserchecksthe
virtualmachinebackintotheserver,theonlinedatais
updatedandtheserverlockisreleased.SubsequentViewClientwithOfflineDesktop
connectionswillbedirectedtotheonlinedesktopuntilthevirtualmachineischecked
outoncemore.
