To add a View Composer database to SQL Server 2005
1OntheVirtualCenterserverhostsystemselectStart>AllPrograms>Microsoft
SQLServer2005>SQLServerManagementStudioExpressandconnecttothe
existingSQLServerinstanceforVirtualInfrastructureManagement.
2IntheObjectExplorerpane,right‐clicktheDatabasesentryandselectNew
Database.Youare
presentedwiththeNewDatabasedialog.
3Enteraname(forexampleViewComposer)intheDatabasenamefieldandclick
OK.YourdatabaseisaddedundertheDatabasesentryintheObjectExplorer.
4ExitMicrosoftSQLServerManagementStudioExpress.
To add an ODBC data source
1OntheVirtualCenterserverhostsystemselectStart>AdministrativeTools>
Data
Source(ODBC).TheMicrosoftODBCDataSourceAdministratorwizardis
displayed.
2 SelecttheSystemDSNtab.
3ClickAddandselectSQLNativeClientfromthelist.
4ClickFinish.TheCreateaNewDataSourcetoSQLServersetupwizardis
displayed.
5Intheappropriatefields,enteraname(forexample,
VMware View Composer)and
abriefdescriptionoftheViewComposerdatabase.
6IntheServerfield,entertheSQLServerdatabaseinformationintheform
<host_name>\<server_name>,where<host_name>isthenameofthehost
systemand<server_name>istheSQLServerinstance.Forexample:
VCHOST1\SQLEXP_VIM
ClickNext.
7EnsurethattheConnecttoSQLServertoobtaindefaultsettingsforthe
additionalconfigurationoptionscheckboxisselectedandselectoneofthe
followingoptions:
IfyouareusinglocalSQLServer ,selectWindowsNTauthentication.Itisalso
knownas“trustedauthentication”andissupportedonlyiftheSQLServeris
runningontheVirtualCenterserverhost.
IfyouareusingremoteSQLServer,selectSQLServerauthentication.
WindowsNTauthenticationisnotsupportedonremoteSQLServer.
