Chapter 6 View Composer
Duringtheinitialstartupofeachnewdesktop,QuickPrepensuresthatthesystemis
givenanewname(specifiedduringthedeploymentprocess)andisjoinedtothe
appropriatedomain,andtomountthenewvolumethatwillcontaintheuserprofile
information.Inaddition,anewcomputeraccountcorrespondingto
eachdesktopis
createdbyQuickPrepontheActiveDirectorydomaincontroller.Theseeventsalsotake
placeafteradesktoprefresh.
ViewComposerrequiresappropriatedomainadministratorcredentialstojoinlinked
clonedesktopstoadomain.Thecredentialsthatyouprovidemustrepresentadomain
accountthathaspermissiontoadd
andremovemachineaccountsfromthespecified
activedirectorycontainer.YourActiveDirectoryadministratormustcreateauserwith
thesecredentials.(Whileitispossibletouseanexistingdomainadministratoraccount
forthisrole,VMwarestronglyrecommendsthatauseraccountbecreatedspecifically
forthispurpose.)
Afteradesktop
iscreated,refreshed,orrecomposed,auser‐definedcustomization
scriptcanberunoneachresynchronizeddesktoptocarryoutadditionaloperations.A
scriptcanalsoberunondesktopsimmediatelybeforetheyarepoweredoff.Youcan
providethepathtoeachtypeofscript(whichmustresideon
theParentVM)duringthe
finalstageoftheinitiallinkedclonedesktopdeployment.QuickPrepisresponsiblefor
ensuringthatthesescriptsareexecutedduringeitherscenario.
Preparing VirtualCenter for View Composer
Beforecarryingoutalinkedclonedesktopdeploymentyoumustconfigurethe
VirtualCenterhostsysteminordertoprepareitforcreatingreplicasandlinkedclone
desktopsfromaParentVMusingtheViewComposerservice.
TheViewComposerservicemustbeinstalledlocallyontheVirtualCenterserver.
YourActiveDirectoryadministratormustcreateauserwiththerequisitelevelof
authoritytobeusedbytheViewComposerservicetocreatelinkedclonedesktops
andaddthemtoyourdomain.See“UsingQuickPrepforLinkedCloneDesktop
Deployment”onpage 124.
IftheVirtualCenteruserusedbyViewManagerisnotanadministrator,youmust
extendtheirroletoincorporateVirtualCenterprivilegesrequiredbythe
View ComposerService.
IfanavailableresourcepooldoesnotalreadyexistwithinVirtualCenter,youmust
createoneontheESXhostorclusterinwhichyouwanttostorethelinkedclone
desktops.RefertotheVirtualCenterdocumentationonhowtodothis.
