Virtual Printing
TheVirtualPrinting(ThinPrint)featureofViewallowsView ClientandView Client
withOfflineDesktopuserstotransparentlyuselocalornetworkprintersfromwithin
theirremotesystems,yetremovestherequirementforinstallingproprietaryprinter
driversoneachViewdesktop.
VirtualPrintingisaplugandplaysolution;onceaprinter
isinstalledonthelocal
systemitisautomaticallyaddedtothelistofavailableprintersontheViewdesktop.
Nofurtherconfigurationisrequired.
VirtualPrintingconsistsofaguestcomponent(.printClient)whichresideswithinthe
ViewClientorViewClientwithOfflineDesktopapplication,andahostcomponent
(.printEngine)whichispartoftheViewAgentserviceontheViewdesktop.Printjobs
aresentby.printEngineto.printClientoveranRDPconnection.
Whereauserhasadministrativeprivileges,printerdriverscanstillbeinstalledonthe
Viewdesktop;thisactiondoesnotinterferewiththe
virtualprintingcomponent.
To configure a virtual printer instance on the View desktop
1ClickStart>Settings>PrintersandFaxes.ThePrintersandFaxeswindowis
displayed.
2RightclickanyofthelocallyavailableprintersandselectPropertiesfromthe
contextmenu.Youarepresentedwiththeprintpropertieswindowassociatedwith
theselectedprinter.
3 SelecttheThinPrintDeviceSetup
tab.
4Usingtheslider,selectanoptionforprintdatacompression:
Noimages—Onlytextisprinted.
Extreme—Imagesarecompressedwithmaximumpossiblecompressionrate
withoutregardtoimagequality.
Maximum—Imagesarecompressedwithgoodquality.
Optimal—Imagesarecompressedwithoptimalquality.
Normal—Losslessimagecompressionisused.
SelectordeselecttheduplexandShowtrayselectioncheckboxesasrequired.
