Upgrading VMware View Components 5
The VMware View components that you must upgrade include View Connection Server, View Client, and
View Agent. Depending on the optional components you use, you might also need to upgrade View Composer,
vCenter Server, ESX hosts, and the virtual machines on ESX hosts. If you plan to use
View Client with Local Mode, you must also install a View Transfer Server instance.
Depending on how large your View deployment is, you might perform the upgrade process incrementally,
over several maintenance windows.
For VMware View 4.5 patch releases, use the sections of this document that are specific to View Manager,
View Composer, View Agent, and View Client.

Upgrade View Connection Servers in a Replicated Group
If you spread the upgrade tasks across multiple maintenance windows, you can verify success or discover
issues at each phase of the process. During the first maintenance window, you upgrade all the
View Connection Server instances in a group that replicates a View LDAP database.
To use the new features of VMware View 4.5, you must upgrade to VMware View 4.5. For a list of the new
features included in View 4.5, see the release notes.
IMPORTANT If you have a View 4.5 RC (release candidate) version of a security server, you must uninstall the
security server and install the GA (general availability) version. Upgrades of View 4.5 security servers from
View 4.5 RC to GA are not supported.
