WhileSRMallowsyoutoreplicatetransientdatasuchasWindowspagingfilesor
virtualmachineswapfiles,suchdataneednotbereplicated.Preventingreplicationof
suchdataavoidsunnecessaryconsumptionofnetworkbandwidth.
Specify a Nonreplicated Datastore for Swapfiles
Everyvirtualmachinerequiresaswapfile,whichisnormallycreatedinthesame
datastoreastheothervirtualmachinefiles.WhenyouuseSRM,thisdatastoreis
replicated.Topreventswapfilesfrombeingreplicated,createthemonanonreplicated
datastore.Thisproceduremustbecarriedoutforallprotectedclusters,at
boththe
protectedandrecoverysites.Formoreinformation,seetheVMwareInfrastructure
documentation.
To create swapfiles on a nonreplicated datastore (ESX 3.5)
1IntheVIClient,right‐clickanESXclusterandclickEditSettings.
2IntheSettingswindowforthecluster,clickSwapfileLocationandselectStorethe
swapfileinthedatastorespecifiedbythehost,
thenclickOK.
3Foreachvirtualmachineinthecluster:
aClicktheConfigurationtab.
bClickEditontheSwapfilelocationline.
cIntheVirtualMachineSwapfileLocationwindow,selectanonreplicated
datastoreandclickOK.
