Credential-Based Authentication
Byspecifyingautogeneratedcertificatesatinstallation,youareimplicitlyspecifying
credentialbasedauthentication.Inthiscase,theSRMserversavesthecredentials
specifiedduringinstallationtoauthenticateallsubsequentcommunicationwiththe
localVirtualCenterServer.WhenthisinstanceofSRMispairedtoaremoteSRMserver,
thecredentialsspecified
aspartofthepairingprocessaresavedtoauthenticateall
subsequentcommunicationwiththeremoteSRMserver.
AllcommunicationwithSRMisprotectedusingSSLencryption,includingthetransfer
ofauthenticationcredentialstoVirtualCenterandSRMservers.
Pairing Sites with Credential-Based Authentication
Connectingprotectedandrecoverysitesusingautogeneratedcertificatesisthedefault
setupforconnectingprotectedandrecoverysites.
To connect to protected and recovery sites
1UsingtheVIClient,logintotheprotectedsiteVirtualCenterServer.
2ClicktheSiteRecoveryicononthetoolbar.
3IntheProtectionSetuppane,clickConfigure.
4EntertheIPaddressorhostnameandportnumberfortheremoteVirtualCenter
ServerandclickNext.
5Accepttheremotesitecertificate.
ThiscertificatepromptappearswhentheSRMserverdoesnottrustthecertificate
fortheremoteVirtualCenterServer.
6Entertheadministratorsusernameandpassword.
7Accepttheremotesitecertificate.
ThiscertificatepromptappearswhentheSRM
serverdoesnottrustthecertificate
fortheremoteSRMserver.
8VerifythateachstephasacheckmarkandclickFinish.
9EntertheadministratorsusernameandpasswordfortheremoteVirtualCenter
Server.
10 Accepttheremotesitecertificate.
CAUTIONWhenyouenterthehostnamefortheVirtualCenterServer,use
lowercase.TheVirtualCenterhostnamemustbeenteredexactlythesameway
(fullyqualifiedornot)duringpairingasitwasduringinstallation.
