Chapter 4 Managing SRM
Credential-Based Authentication
Byspecifyingauto‐generatedcertificatesatinstallation,youareimplicitlyspecifying
credential‐basedauthentication.Inthiscase,theSRMserversavesthecredentials
specifiedduringinstallationtoauthenticateallsubsequentcommunicationwiththe
localVirtualCenterServer.WhenthisinstanceofSRMispairedtoaremoteSRMserver,
thecredentialsspecified
aspartofthepairingprocessaresavedtoauthenticateall
subsequentcommunicationwiththeremoteSRMserver.
AllcommunicationwithSRMisprotectedusingSSLencryption,includingthetransfer
ofauthenticationcredentialstoVirtualCenterandSRMservers.
Pairing Sites with Credential-Based Authentication
Connectingprotectedandrecoverysitesusingauto‐generatedcertificatesisthedefault
setupforconnectingprotectedandrecoverysites.
To connect to protected and recovery sites
1UsingtheVIClient,logintotheprotectedsiteVirtualCenterServer.
2ClicktheSiteRecoveryicononthetoolbar.
3IntheProtectionSetuppane,clickConfigure.
4EntertheIPaddressorhostnameandportnumberfortheremoteVirtualCenter
ServerandclickNext.
5Accepttheremotesitecertificate.
ThiscertificatepromptappearswhentheSRMserverdoesnottrustthecertificate
fortheremoteVirtualCenterServer.
6Entertheadministrator’susernameandpassword.
7Accepttheremotesitecertificate.
ThiscertificatepromptappearswhentheSRM
serverdoesnottrustthecertificate
fortheremoteSRMserver.
8VerifythateachstephasacheckmarkandclickFinish.
9Entertheadministrator’susernameandpasswordfortheremoteVirtualCenter
Server.
10 Accepttheremotesitecertificate.
CAUTIONWhenyouenterthehostnamefortheVirtualCenterServer,use
lowercase.TheVirtualCenterhostnamemustbeenteredexactlythesameway
(fullyqualifiedornot)duringpairingasitwasduringinstallation.
