Table Of Contents
c Click the Related Objects tab and click Datastores.
The datastore that stores the virtual machine les is listed.
d Select the datastore and click the Navigate to the datastore  browser icon.
The datastore browser displays contents of the datastore.
2 Open the virtual machine folder and browse to the virtual disk le that you want to convert.
The le has the .vmdk extension and is marked with the virtual disk ( ) icon.
3 Right-click the virtual disk le and select .
N The option might not be available if the virtual disk is thick or when the virtual machine is
running.
The inated virtual disk occupies the entire datastore space originally provisioned to it.
Turn off Storage Filters
When you perform VMFS datastore management operations, vCenter Server uses default storage protection
lters. The lters help you to avoid storage corruption by retrieving only the storage devices that can be
used for a particular operation. Unsuitable devices are not displayed for selection. You can turn o the lters
to view all devices.
Prerequisites
Before you make changes to the device lters, consult with the VMware support team. You can turn o the
lters only if you have other methods to prevent device corruption.
Procedure
1 Browse to the vCenter Server in the vSphere Web Client object navigator.
2 Click the Manage tab, and click .
3 Under , click Advanced , and click Edit.
4 Specify the lter to turn o.
a In the Name text box, enter an appropriate lter name.

b In the Value text box, enter False for the specied key.
5 Click Add, and click OK to save your changes.
You are not required to restart the vCenter Server system.
