Symptom
TheChanneldisconnectsorfailstoconnectinaLANdeployment.
Causes
TheChanneldisconnectsorfailstoconnectduetothePrincipal(Public)NICand/oroneormorechannels
sharingthesamesubnet.
Resolution
IfvCenterServerHeartbeatisdeployedinaLANenvironment,thePrincipal(Public)IPaddressandthe
VMwareChannelIPaddressonaservermustbeinseparatesubnets.Whenmultipleredundantchannelsare
present,eachmusthaveitsownsubnet.CheckthenetworkconfigurationforeachNIConbothservers
inthe
pairandcorrectanyissues.
WAN Deployment
IncorrectroutingcanpreventtheactiveandpassiveserversfromconnectinginaWANenvironment.
Symptom
TheVMwareChanneldisconnectsorfailstoconnectinaWANdeployment.
Cause
WhentheVMwareChanneldisconnectsorfailstoconnectinaWANdeployment,thestaticroutemightnot
beconfiguredormightbeconfiguredincorrectly.
WhenvCenterServerHeartbeatisdeployedinaWAN, thePrincipal(Public)IPaddressandtheVMware
ChannelIPaddressescannotbeindifferentsubnets,because
thereusuallyisasinglenetworkpathbetween
thetwoservers.ConfigureastaticroutebetweentheendpointstoroutetrafficintheVMwareChannel.

ConnectioninaWANEnvironmentforadetaileddiscussionaboutWANchannelroutingissues,andfor
instructionsonconfiguringastaticroutefortheVMwareChannel.
MaxDiskUsage Errors
vCenterServerHeartbeatusesqueuestobuffertheflowofreplicationdatafromtheactiveservertothe
passiveserver.Thisconfigurationprovidesresilienceintheeventofuseractivityspikes,VMwareChannel
bandwidthrestrictions,orVMwareChanneldropsacrossaWA Ndeployment.Sometypesoffilewriteactivity
alsorequire
bufferingastheycancauseasharpincreaseintheamountofchanneltraffic.Thequeuesarecalled
thesendqueue(ontheactiveserver)orthereceivequeue(onthepassiveserver).
