Thefollowingunexpectedbehaviorsillustratesymptoms,causesandresolutionforagivenscenario.
Two Active Servers
Whentwoidenticalactiveserversareliveonthesamenetwork,vCenterServerHeartbeatreferstothe
conditionasSplitbrainsyndrome.Twoactiveserversdonotoccurbydesignandwhendetected,mustbe
resolvedimmediately.
Symptoms
Splitbrainsyndromeisidentifiedbythefollowingsymptoms:
Bothserversinthepairarerunningandinanactivestate.ThetaskbariconsdisplayP/A(Primaryand
active)andS/A(Secondaryandactive).
AnIPaddressconflictoccursonaserverpairrunningvCenterServerHeartbeatonthePrincipal(Public)
IPaddress.
AnameconflictoccursonaserverpairrunningvCenterServerHeartbeat.InaWANenvironmentthe
PrimaryandSecondaryserversconnecttothenetworkusingdifferentIPaddresses.However,ifthe
serversarerunningwiththesamenameandarevisibletoeachotheracrosstheWAN,anameconflict
occurs.
Clients(forexample,VIClient,ESX,etc.)cannotconnecttotheserverrunningvCenterServerHeartbeat.
