Reviewing the Applications Log
TheApplicationsLoghelpstroubleshoottheprotectedapplicationenvironment.TheApplicationsLog
providesinformationaboutthebehaviorofallprotectedapplicationsandincludeseventssuchastaskstatus
changes,ruletriggering,taskoutputs,andapplicationwarnings.Usethislogtotroubleshootapplication
errors.Theorderthatentriesaredisplayedcanbe
sortedeitherascendingordescendingbyclickingthe
columntitle.
Filtering Application Log Entries
vCenterServerHeartbeatcanfilterApplicationsLogfilestolimittheeventsdisplayed.Bydefault,allevents

To filter the events to display

Applicationspage.
2Intheuppersection,cleartheeventtypes
youdonotwanttoview.
3Tolimitthedateandtimerange,selectOnlyshoweventsfromandeditthedateortimerange.

Services Tab
TheApplications:Servicespagedisplaysbothservicesthatyouorplug‐insspecifyandtheservicesrelated
tothembydependency(eitherasdependentsordepends‐on).Thetargetstatesofprotectedservicesforthe
PrimaryandSecondaryservercanbespecifiedandaretypicallyRunningontheactiveandStopped
onthe
passive.ServicesareprotectediftheyareRunningorAutomatic,andareotherwiseloggedasunprotected.
vCenterServerHeartbeatmanagesservicesthatdependonprotectedservices(startedandstopped)butnot
monitored(notrestartedifstoppedbysomeexternalagency).vCenterServerHeartbeatmonitorsprotected
services(restartedif
stopped)butnotmanaged(notstoppedifprotectedapplicationsarestopped).
Adding a Service
To protect a service
1Right‐clickonaserviceandselectAddfromthemenuorclickAddonApplications:Servicespageto
invoketheAddServicedialog.TheNamedrop‐downlistcontainsalistofallcurrentlyrunningservices.
2 SelecttheserviceandsetthevaluesforTargetStateonActiveandTarget
StateonPassive.Normallythe
TargetStateonActiveissettoRunningandtheTargetStateonPassiveissettoStopped.
