Configuring the Default Channel Port
VMwareChannelusestheDefaultChannelPorttocommunicatebetweenthePrimaryandSecondaryserver.
Donotchangethisportunlessanotherapplicationisusingit.TochangetheDefaultChannelPort,clickthe
Channeltab,editthedefaultentry(57348),andclickNextorFinish.
Configuring Low Bandwidth Module
ThisfeatureisautomaticallyenabledduringinstallationwhenconfiguredforaWAN.Todisablethisfeature,
clicktheChanneltabandcleartheLowBandwidthOptimizationcheckbox.Whenenabled,theVMware
Channeloptimizescommunicationsforlowbandwidthconnections.LowBandwidthOptimization(LBO)
storesdataondiskratherthaninmemory
andisessentialforWANinstallationsorwhenbandwidthis
limited.
ThissettingshouldnotbechangedunlessdirectedtodosobyVMwareSupport.
Configuring Public IP Addressing
vCenterServerHeartbeatserversareconfiguredwithoneormorePrincipal(Public)IPaddresses.Theseare
theaddressesusedbyclientsoftheprotectedapplicationtoconnecttotheapplication.Typically,thereisone
Principal(Public)IPaddress.
YoumustconfigureallofthePrincipal(Public)IPaddressesonbothPrimary
andSecondaryservers.Onthe
passiveserver,alltraffictoandfromthesePrincipal(Public)IPaddressesisblocked.Ontheactiveserver,all
trafficpassesthrough.Whentheserverrolesswitch,theIPfilteringmodealsoswitches,soclientsystems
alwaysconnecttothePrincipal(Public)IPaddressesonthe
serverthatiscurrentlyactive.WhenthevCenter
ServerHeartbeatserviceshutsdown,thefilteringremainsinplacesonoIPaddressconflictsoccurbetween
thetwoservers.
NOTEThisfeatureisdesignedforimplementationswheretheavailablethroughputontheVMwareChannel
isslowerthan10Mbit/s.DonotenabletheLowBandwidthModuleinaLAN,thisfeatureisnotdesignedto
workinaLANwherethethroughputismuchfaster.
