Managing Licenses on ESXi Hosts
You can license an ESXi host that is connected to vCenter Server or if your vSphere Client is connected directly
to the host. You can also query which features are licensed on a host or set a host to evaluation mode.

License a Host When Adding It to the vCenter Server Inventory
When you add a host to the vCenter Server inventory, you can assign a license key to the host.
Prerequisites
You must have a communication channel through a firewall before you add a host.
NOTE Verify that the edition of the license key you assign to the host matches the currently configured features
and resources. Otherwise, you cannot assign the license key.
Procedure
1 Click Inventory in the navigation bar.
2 Expand the inventory as needed and click the appropriate datacenter, folder, or cluster.
3 Right-click the datacenter or cluster and select Add Host.
4 At the prompt, assign an existing vSphere license key or add a new vSphere license key.
License an ESXi Host Without vCenter Server
If you are directly connected to the host through the vSphere Client, you can assign the host a license key.
NOTE Verify that the edition of the license key you assign to the host matches the currently configured features
and resources. Otherwise, you cannot assign the license key.
Procedure
1 From the vSphere Client, click the Configuration tab.
2 Under Software, click Licensed Features.
3 Click Edit.
4 Assign a license key.

Select Assign an existing license key to this hostand select a license key from the Product list.

Select Assign a new license key to this host, click Enter Key, and enter a license key and an optional
label for the license key.
