Getting Started with VMware View

YoumustinstalltheViewComposerAgentifyouwanttodeployViewComposerlinkedclonedesktops.
Youcanalsoselectordeselectthefollowingfeaturecomponents:
IfyouwanttoallowuserstodownloadcopiesoftheirvirtualdesktopsfromtheViewConnection
Serverforuseonalocalcomputersuchasalaptop,installtheOfflineDesktopcomponent.
OfflineDesktopisanexperimentalfeature.OfflineDesktopisnotsupportedwithvSphere4.
IfvirtualdesktopusersneedtoaccesslocallyconnectedUSBdeviceswiththeirvirtualdesktops,
installtheUSBRedirectioncomponent.
Windows2000doesnotsupportUSBredirection.
Ifyouwanttoenablesinglesign‐on(SSO),installtheViewSecureAuthenticationcomponent.
Ifenabled,whenuserslogintoViewClienttheyarenotpromptedtore‐entertheirauthentication
informationtologintotheirvirtualdesktops.
Ifyouwanttoenableuserstoprinttoanyprinteravailabletotheirclientsystemswithoutfirst
installingadditionaldriversontheirvirtualdesktops,installtheVirtualPrintingcomponent.
IfyouwanttoallowuserstoconnectusingthePCoIPdisplayprotocol,installthePCoIPServer
component.PCoIPprovidesanoptimizedPCexperienceforthedeliveryofimages,audio,andvideo
contentforawiderangeofusersontheLANoracrosstheWAN.

(Optional) Create a Virtual Machine Customization Specification
Customizationspecificationscanexpediteautomateddesktoppooldeploymentsbyprovidingconfiguration
informationforgeneralproperties,suchaslicensing,domainattachment,andDHCPsettings.
ViewComposerlinkedclonevirtualdesktopsdonotusecustomizationspecifications.Thisdeployment
optionisdescribedin“(Optional)DeployaViewComposerVirtualDesktopPool”onpage 9.
To create a customization specification
1In
vCenter,clickEdit>CustomizationSpecifications.
2ClickNewtocreateanewcustomizationspecification.
3Makesurethat Windowsisselectedinthe TargetVirtualMachineOSdrop‐downmenu,provideaname
andan(optional)descriptionforthecustomizationspecification,andclickNext.
4EntertheNameandOrganizationtoassociatewith
thedesktopsthatyouwillcreateintheautomated
desktoppool,andclickNext.
5 SelectoneofthefollowingoptionsandclickNext.
Usethevirtualmachinenameifyouwantthedesktopsinthepooltoderivetheirnamesfromthe
nameassignedtoeachdesktopvirtualmachineduringdeploymentfromViewManager.Thisisthe
recommendedoption.
Useaspecificnameifyouwantthedesktopsinthepooltoderivetheirnamesfromapredefined
label.Ifyouselectthisoption,alsoselectAppendanumericvaluetoensureuniqueness.
6EnterthelicensenumberforthevirtualdesktopoperatingsystemintheProductIDfield,specifywhether
thisisasingleormultipleseatlicense,andclickNext.

OTEOnWindowsVista,ifyouinstallthePCoIPServercomponent,theWindowsgrouppolicy
DisableorenablesoftwareSecureAttentionSequenceisenabledandsettoServices and Ease
of Access applications.Ifyouchangethissetting,singlesign‐onwillnotworkcorrectly.
