Static IP and DHCP Networking
YoucanusestaticIPorDHCPnetworkinginLab Managerforeachvirtualmachine NIC.
ToavoidsettingupanIPrange,useDHCPtoobtainIPaddressesfromaDHCPserver.DHCPdoesnotwork
withnetworkfencing,afeaturethatallowsmultipleuserstoworkwithliveinstancesofthe
samevirtual
machineconfigurationonthesamenetwork.Fordetailsonfencing,seetheappendixsectionofthe
Lab ManagerUser’sGuide.
TouseastaticIPaddress,youcanenteranIPaddressmanuallyorusethestaticIPpool.Thepoolrequiresyou
tospecifyanIPrange,DNSsuffix,
gateway,netmask,andDNSinformation.YoucanaddasmanyIPaddresses
asyouwant.ThestaticIPpoolworkswithnetworkfencing.
Everyvirtualmachineusingthestatic‐IPPooladdressingmodeforaNICconnectedtoaphysicalnetwork
requiresanIPaddressfromtheIPpoolofthe
physicalnetwork.ThisIPaddressstayswiththevirtualmachine
throughthevariousoperationsinLab Manager.Whenyoudeleteallinstancesofthevirtualmachinewiththis
IPaddress,Lab ManagerreleasestheIPaddresstotheIPpool.
Ifyoudeployaconfigurationinfencedmode,Lab ManagerallocatesadditionalIPaddresses
fromthephysical
networkIPpool‐‐unlessyouusetheBlockTrafficInandOutoption‐‐andassignsthemasexternalIP
addressesforeachvirtualmachineintheconfiguration.YoucanusetheexternalIPaddresstoaccessavirtual
machinefromoutsidethefencedconfiguration(forexample,from
yourdesktop).
Whenyouundeploythisconfiguration,Lab ManagerreleasestheexternalIPaddresses.Youcancontrolthe
lengthoftimeLab ManagerreservesreleasedexternalIPaddressesbeforereturningthemtotheIPpool.

Lab Managercreatesthesystem-infos.binfileduringtheinstallationforpasswordencryption.Thisfileis
akeythataffectspasswordsforthevCenterServer,ESX/ESXihosts,andtheSMTPserver.Toensurethatyou
donotlosepasswords,backupthisfilelocatedat%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Lab Manager\CryptoforMicrosoftWindows2003
and%programdata%\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\VMware
vCenter Lab Manager\Crypto
forWindowsServer2008.
Uninstall Lab Manager
UninstallingLab Managerinvolvesdetachingresourcepools,unpreparingtheESX/ESXihosts,andremoving
theLab Managerserversoftware.
To uninstall Lab Manager
1LogintotheLab ManagerWebconsole.
2Intheleftpane,clickResources.
3IntheHoststab,movethepointeroverthehostnameandselectUnpreparefromthemenu.
Repeatthisprocessforeachhost.
4IntheResourcePoolstab,movethepointerovertheresourcepoolnameandselectDisablefromthe
menu.
Repeatthisprocessforeachresourcepool.
5IntheResourcePoolstab,movethepointerovertheresourcepoolnameandselectDetachfromthe
menu.
Repeatthisprocessforeachresourcepool.
