Datastore Requirements and Recommendations
VirtualmachinesandmediafilescanresideonVMFSandNFSdatastores.Formoreinformationabout
datastoresandmediastores,seetheLab ManagerUser’sGuide.VMwarerecommendssharedstorage(NFS,
iSCSI,orFibreChannel).VMwarealsorecommendsusingasmallnumberoflargeSANVMFSpartitions
ratherthanalargenumber
ofsmallpartitions.
Touseadatastoreformedia,youmustconfigureitasamediastoreinLab Manager.Youcanusethesame
datastoreformediaandvirtualmachinestorage,aslongasyouusedifferentdirectories.
ToenableadatastoreformediaandadditasaLab Managermediastore,seetheLab ManagerUser’sGuide.
AVMFSdatastorehasthefollowingrequirements:
Thedatastoremusthaveenoughspaceforthechainofdeltadisksgeneratedfromvirtualmachine
operations.Thechaincannotspanmultipledatastores.
Forvariouschanges,Lab Managerfreezestheoriginaldeltadiskandcreatesanewone.Thechainlength
indicateshowscatteredthevirtualmachineimageisacrossthedirectories
ofadatastore.
