Prerequisites for Lab Manager Server
InadditiontotheinstallationrequirementsdescribedinChapter 2,reviewthese
prerequisitesfortheLab ManagerServersystem.
ThetargetLab ManagerServersystemmusthaveaNICwiththeserequirements:
StaticIPaddress
PhysicallyconnectedNIC(nowirelesscards)
Youmustuseafullyqualifieddomainname(FQDN).Certainfeaturesof
Lab Manager,suchasLiveLink,requireanFQDN.Thisrequirementdoesnot
meanthattheLab ManagerServersystemresidesinadomain.
AnFQDNstartswiththecomputernamefollowedbytheDNSsuffix(forexample,
computer_name.mydomain.com).VMwarerecommendsavoiding
theuseofanIP
addressbecausecomplicationsmightariseatalatertimeifyouneedtochangethat
address.
Thesystemclockshowsthecurrentdateandtime.
TheLab ManagerServersystemcannotresideonamachinewithMicrosoftSQL
Server2005.

Installing or Customizing the SSL Certificate
VMwarerecommendsinstallinganSSLcertificatefromatrustedcertificationauthority
thatvalidatestheserveridentity.GeneratetheSSLcertificatewiththedomainnameor
IPaddressforaccessingLab Manager.
IfyoudonotinstalltheSSLcertificate,VMwareautomaticallygeneratesonebutSSL
securitywarningsappearinthebrowser.For

YoucanuseOpenSSLtogenerateacustomSSLcertificatewithadifferentnamethan
theonegeneratedbyVMware.VMwarerecommendsgeneratingthecustomcertificate
ontheLab ManagerServersystem.
