VMFS Datastore
TheinitializationprocessforLab Manager(page 36)promptsyoutoselecttheVMFS
devicesyouwanttheManagedServersystemtouseforstorage.Reviewthe
requirementsandrecommendationsfortheVMFSdatastore:
(Recommended)AsmallnumberoflargeSANVMFSpartitionsratherthanalarge
numberofsmallpartitions.
Thelifecycleofavirtualmachineinvolvestransitionsfromtemplatesto
configurationstolibraryconfigurationsandmore.Theoperationsforma“chain”
ofchangesthattakesupdiskspace.Thesegrowingchainscannotspanmultiple
datastoresandmusthaveenoughspacewithinasingledatastore.
AVMFSdatastoreisconfiguredintheESXServersystem.
YoumustsetupVMFSpartitionsoutsideofLab ManagerthroughtheVirtual
InfrastructureClient(VIClient).ThisclientisaninterfacepackagedwithESX
ServerthatallowsuserstoconnectremotelytoESXServersystemsfromany
WindowsPC.UseVI
Clienttoaddoreditdiskvolumesandpartitions.Whenyou
laterattachtheManagedServersystemintheLab ManagerWebconsole,youcan
specifytheVMFSdiskvolumesfortheManagedServersystem.

NFS Datastore
YoucanconfigureNFSdatastoresintheLab ManagerWebconsoleafterthe
initializationphase(see“InitializingandConfiguringLab Manageronpage 36).

TheNFSservermustbeaccessibleinreadwritemodebyallManagedServer
systems.
TheNFSservermustallowreadwriteaccessforthe“root”systemaccount.
CAUTIONDonotsetupNFSdatastoresthroughtheVIClientontheESXServersystem.
UnlikeVMFSdatastores,NFSdatastorescreatedthroughtheVIClientarenot
recognizedbyLab Manager.SuchdatastoresconflictwiththecreationofNFS
datastoresthroughtheLab ManagerWebconsole.
