Gathering Network Information for Installation
Beforeyoubegintheinstallation,gatherinformationabout yournetwork.Thisincludes
theblockofIPaddressestheLabManagerSystemusesforvirtualmachines,IP
addressesfortheprimaryandsecondaryDNSserversinthenetwork,subnetmaskfor
thenetwork,IPaddressforthenetworkgateway,andtheLab
ManagerServerDNS
suffix.ConsultyournetworkITAdministratorforinformation.
IP Addresses for Virtual Machines
ReservearangeofIPaddressesforvirtualmachines.ThisrangeisinadditiontotheIP
addressesrequiredforeachLabManagerServer,storageserver,andManagedServer.
IPaddressesforvirtualmachinesareautomaticallyallocatedfromthepoolofIP
addressesyoureserve.Thenumberofvirtualmachinesrunning
andrequiringIP
addressesvarieswiththenumberandcomplexityofconfigurationsdeployedatany
onetime.
Foraminimumsystem,youprobablyneedatleast100IPaddresses.(Youcanadd
blocksofaddressesatalatertime.)Foralargeinstallation,VMwarerecommends
allocating200ormoreIPaddresses.
YouneedoneortwoIPaddressesforeach
deployedvirtualmachine.Baseyourestimateoncurrentandfutureneeds.

YoumusthaveIISandASP.NETversion1.1.4322installedandenabledonyourLab
ManagerServer.(See“SystemRequirements:LabManagerServerandManaged
Serveronpage 15.)ThoughIISandASP.NETcomewithWindowsServer2003,these
programsmightnotbeinstalledatthesametimeasWindowsServer2003.You
also
musthaveeitherServicePack1(SP1)orSPIforMicrosoft.NETFramework1.1
installed.
