Managing Hosts
AhostisanESX/ESXiserverthatprovidesCPUandmemoryresourcesforLabManagervirtualmachines.
You canaddvCenterhoststoLab ManagerontheResourcePoolstab.SeeAttachaResourcePool”on
page 19.Youcanundeploy,redeploy,andforceundeployallvirtualmachinesonahost.Otheroperations
include
disablingandunpreparinghosts,andaccessingahost’sdeployedvirtualmachinesandproperties.
Prepare a Host
Afterattachingunpreparedhoststoaresourcepool,administratorsarepromptedtostartthePrepareHosts
wizard.YoucanalsostartthewizardfromtheHoststab.Unpreparedhostsincludenewhoststhatareadded
toaclusterinvCenterorhoststhatarenotpreparedimmediatelyafteryouattacha
resourcepool.
This preparationinvolvessuchtasksasinstallingLab Manageragentonthehosts.
IfyouareusingaDRScluster,VMwarerecommendsthatyouprepareallthehostsinthecluster.Otherwise,
virtualmachineswithnoNICs,orwithNICsconnectedtotheNonenetwork,mightgetmigratedtoadisabled
host.
To prepare a host
1Intheleftpane,clickResources.
2OntheHoststab,movethepointeroverthehostnameandselectPrepare.
3 Selectordeselectthecheckboxthatspecifieswhethertousethesameusernameandpasswordforall
hosts.
4Ifyouselectedthecheckbox,typetheusername
andpassword.
5 Selectthecheckboxesnexttothehoststhatyouwanttoprepare.
6Typeusernamesandpasswords,ifnecessary.
7ClickNext.
8 Selectthedatastoresthatyouwanttoenableforvirtualmachineuse.
9ClickFinish.
Enable and Disable Hosts
Whenyoudisableahost,Lab Managerpreventsthedeploymentofnewvirtualmachinesonthehost.Virtual
machinesthatarealreadydeployedonthehostareunaffected.Toperformmaintenanceonahost,youneed
toundeploythevirtualmachines.See“UndeployAllVirtualMachinesonaHost”onpage 93.To
unprepare
ahost,youmustfirstdisableit.
Bydefault,onlysystemadministratorscanenableanddisablehosts.
To enable or disable a host
1Intheleftpane,clickResources.
2OntheHoststab,movethepointeroverthehostandselectEnableorDisable.
3ClickOK.
Lab Managerenablesordisablesthehost.
