Connect Remotely to a Virtual Machine
AfteryoucreateaRemoteDesktopConnectionfileforavirtualmachine,youcanuseittoaccessthevirtual
machinefromoutsideLab Manager.Thevirtualmachinemustbedeployedandpoweredonandyoumust
havenetworkaccessandaccesspermissiontothevirtualmachine.
To access a virtual machine using Remote Desktop
1Double‐clicktheRemoteDesktop
connectionfile.
2TypetheusernameandpasswordfortheguestoperatingsystemandclickOK.
Modify Virtual Machine Properties
Forvirtualmachinesinworkspaceconfigurations,youcanmodifymanyofthevirtualmachineproperties.
However,ifthevirtualmachineisdeployed,thenumberofpropertiesyoucanmodifyislimited.Forvirtual
machinesinlibraryconfigurations,youcanonlymodifythestoragelease.Virtualmachineproperties
originatefromthevirtual
machinetemplateonwhichthemachineisbased.

To modify virtual machine properties
1MovethepointerovertheconfigurationnameandselectOpen
.
2OntheVirtualMachinestab,movethepointeroverthevirtualmachinenameandselectProperties.
3 Changeanyofthefollowingproperties.
Name–Canonlycontainalphanumericcharacters(a–z,A–Z,0–9),hyphens,underscores,orperiods.
Maximumlengthis20characters.
Description–(Optional)Maximumnumberofcharactersis128.
GuestOS–Ifyouselecta64‐bitguestoperatingsystem,thedatastoremustbeconnectedtoan
ESX/ESXihostthatprovidestherequired64‐bitprocessorforthatguestOS.Youcanproceedwithout
fulfillingthisrequirement,butyoucannotdeploythevirtualmachineuntilyouattachahost
withthe
correctprocessor.Ifyouhavesomebutnotall64‐bithosts,Lab Managerlimitsthenumberofhosts
onwhichthevirtualmachinecanbedeployed.

32‐bitVirtualCPU–Bydefault,thevirtualCPUtypeassumesthephysicalhostCPUtype.
SelectthischeckboxtooverridethedefaultbehaviorandensurethatthevirtualCPUtypeis32‐bit.
Forexample,youmighthave64‐bitESX/ESXihoststhatdonothavetherequired
software(kernelor
drivers)foraSolarisguestoperatingsystem.Anotherexampleinvolvesamixed(32‐bitand64‐bit)
ESX/ESXihostenvironmentwhereyouneedtocompleteatestingprocessspecificallyona32‐bit
