whichisatypeofvSpherevirtualswitchthatspansmultiple
ESX/ESXihosts.Lab Managercreatesandusesavirtualmachine(VMwareLMServiceVM)oneachofthese
hoststosendpacketsbetweenthehostsusingthevNetworkDistributedSwitch.
Setting Up a Host Spanning
Aconfigurationthatusesfencingorvirtualnetworksmustmeetthefollowingrequirementsbeforeyoucan
deployitacrossmultiplehosts.

HostSpanningisenabledfortheorganizationcontainingtheconfiguration.See“DisableorEnableHost

HostSpanningisenabledforatleasttwoESX/ESXihoststhatareavailabletotheconfiguration.See

Deploying and Undeploying Configurations
DeployingaconfigurationregistersitsvirtualmachinesonESX/ESXihostsandprovidesaccesstoitsvirtual
machineconsolesandguestoperatingsystems.Youcandeployanentireconfigurationorindividualvirtual
machinesintheconfiguration.See“DeployaVirtualMachine”onpage 73forinformationaboutdeploying
anindividualvirtualmachinein
aconfiguration.
Youcanonlydeployworkspaceconfigurations.Ifyouwanttodeployalibraryconfiguration,cloneittoa
workspacefirstandthendeployit.
Thefirsttimeyoudeployaconfiguration,allofitsvirtualmachineswithguestcustomizationenabledgo
throughacustomizationprocess,whichmightinvolvemultiple
reboots.Donotshutdownthevirtual
machinesuntilthecustomizationiscomplete.
Whenyoudeployaconfiguration,youcaneitherprovidecustomsettingsorusethedefaultsettings.
Deploy a Configuration with Custom Settings
Whenyoudeployaconfigurationwithcustomsettings,youcanspecifyvariousdeploymentoptionsthat
determinetheconfiguration’snetworkconnectivity,deploymentlease,resourcepool,andsoon.
To deploy a configuration with custom settings
1MovethepointerovertheconfigurationnameandselectDeploy.
Ifyouhavealreadypartiallydeployedtheconfiguration,youcanonlymodifycertainsettings.
2 SelecttheFenceVirtualMachinescheckboxtodeploytheconfigurationinfencedmode.
Thisoptionisonlyavailableiftheconfigurationallowsfencingandincludesaphysicalnetworkthat also
allowsfencing.
UsetheConnectivitydropdownmenutoselectaconnectivitymodeforeachphysicalnetwork.See
“FencingConnectivity”on
page 57formoreinformation.
3 SelecttheConnectVirtualNetworkstoPhysicalNetworkscheckboxtoconnectvirtualnetworksto
physicalnetworks.
Thisoptionisonlyavailableiftheconfigurationincludesavirtualnetwork.
SelectaphysicalnetworktoconnecttoandusetheConnectivitydropdownmenutoselectaconnectivity
mode.
